Our Mission

Propel Counseling Group, LLC emerged from a desire to meet the mental health needs of individuals, families, communities, and churches. We provide quality services to those in need of empowerment, connection, and healing. We strive to incorporate faith and passion while helping people become more effective, productive, and engaged. We work alongside our clients to encourage forward movement in their daily lives.
Propel continues to grow to serve the community’s need and provide a client-centered and evidence-based approach. We work hard with you to not just host an opportunity for talk therapy but to also to provide teaching and psychoeducation. This makes your experience in counseling an opportunity to learn skills and retrain your thinking patterns…. and make steps toward reaching your goals!

Our Values

We value faith, empathy, strength and empowerment, connection, and dignity while we utilize a client-centered approach. We connect clients with relevant resources to maintain a successful level of functioning at time of discharge. While working through a collaborative treatment plan, clients can expect to focus on growing their own strengths and support network while learning skills to overcome challenges. Clients will also increase the ability to connect with and validate their feelings and experiences while identifying unhealthy thoughts and inner dialogs.

Our Goal

The ultimate goal is for you to discharge from our services successfully and not need us! We will work to guide you as you learn and practice specific skills, use prevention methods, and process life events. Your success starts with asking for help!

Our History

Propel Counseling offers a combined 40+ years of experience serving the mental health needs of Southwest Virginia. Propel began in October 2020 during a world health crisis. Some asked, “Why start a business in the middle of a pandemic?” In one short answer… To meet a need and follow a calling!
Propel was founded with a passion for serving the specific needs of clients and their families efficiently and with clinical, evidenced based approaches. Owners, Kim and Heather, felt a calling and began to see their career journeys taking a different path during 2020. Slowly it became evident that starting a private practice to focus efforts on direct client care were the steps toward fulfilling a lifelong calling. Stepping out in faith, they left leadership positions with a private provider and began to build what they hope would be an asset within the communities of Southwest Virginia. The office location was chosen due to being centrally located in Clintwood and easily accessible from multiple directions within Southwest Virginia. Also, Heather and Kim are both from Clintwood and have a true heart to serve the area. The location provided enough space to start small yet manage growth potential. The practice began with two main therapy rooms called the Play Room and Garden Room.
Propel continued to grow to meet the needs of the community and quickly earned a reputation for excellent client care and coordination with other care providers! During early 2021, Propel expanded to utilize the full building at 160 Court House Lane in Clintwood. This allowed for the addition of a family counseling room, conference room, and counselor lounge/telehealth room. This spring also saw the addition of a part-time administrative assistance, Cameron Carroll. Cameron continues to work to assist with administrative and accounting responsibilities both in office and remotely.
In June of 2021, Propel made its first big jump! Kristina Endicott, LPC joined the Propeller team as a full-time counselor to meet the always increasing need to serve the community. Kristina has been an asset to both the outpatient and Counseling To Go programs.
In the August of 2021, Propel had developed a desperate need for a full-time administrative coordinator to manage scheduling, billing, and to generally keep us all straight. Misty Hill, QMHP joined the Propellers and has stepped up to juggle multiple responsibilities as well as assist on Counseling To Go services in the community and homes.
January and February of 2022 definitely had its share of challenges. Propel put to the test the Covid and weather protocols and utilized telehealth as Propellers were impacted directly. We managed to work many months successfully avoiding Covid in 2020 and 2021!! In January 2022 it caught up with us finally! We were pleased that the level of services continued to meet the needs as telehealth has proven time and again to be a good option during illness and inclement weather! We very much appreciated our clients being understanding and working with us. January also saw the addition of group counseling as a chronic pain group began.
As growth continued, in September 2022 Propel was excited to purchase and move into a newly renovated office building located at 203 Chase St. in Clintwood. This allowed us to add two more therapy rooms!
Stay tuned as we continue to propel forward. More exciting news to come!

What we offer and what to expect

Propel Counseling offers individual, marriage and family, and group counseling. While applying an eclectic style, our therapists draw upon years of experience and various therapeutic approaches to meet the specific needs of the client. We are located in Clintwood, Virginia. We serve clients within Southwest Virginia through services such as outpatient therapy or Counseling To Go in the homes and communities. We also provide telehealth within the state of Virginia.
Your first visit (called an intake) will involve a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment. This is basically just a fancy word for us asking a lot of questions to get the big picture of what is going on and what you need. We also develop with you a treatment plan featuring obtainable long-term goals and short-term objectives. Counselors at Propel utilize worksheets, videos, activities, curriculums, and more to help you learn new skills. Your sessions may be weekly or bi-weekly and we have the ability to always adjust to your specific need. While counseling at Propel does involve talk therapy, we also do more than just sit and talk to make you feel good! We involve teaching skills you can actually practice and apply. We will often assign homework so that you are continuously growing and learning and give you material to take home to use between sessions. We may teach communication skills, thinking skills, relaxation skills, just to name a few. We will work as hard as you do and come alongside you every step of the way. It all starts with you asking for help and making a call!

The Play Room features multiple therapeutic games and activities utilized in sessions with children. Whether using doll houses, puppets, coloring books, the play rug, or playing in the sand, clients can create a space in which they feel comfortable and safe. Our counselors are committed to a person-centered approach… even if it means sitting in the floor! 🙂 Many simply find it easier to focus and talk just using one of the many fidget toys and activities available. The Family Room may be the comfiest spot in the building. Furnished with oversized chairs and sofa, it becomes the perfect spot to practice relaxation skills using video assisted trainings. The room we call “The Vibe” has become a client favorite. Using mid-century furniture and art by Rachel Lee, we have created a space to chill as well as focus on moving forward. We are also excited about our improved studio room from which we produce trainings, upcoming podcast features, and provide licensure supervisions. The studio has become a favorite with counselors providing telehealth also! We have a resource room and client refreshment station with available water, coffee, or tea. If you catch it on the right day there may be some other goodies as well! Our spacious waiting room offers inspirational décor and provides a comfortable place to wait while reflecting on the quote of the week. Last but not least, our conference room provides space for large families and trainings. Our building and all facilities are handicap accessible.
